Sometimes in life, you have to choose: This or that? Here or there? Now or later?
However, when it comes to the question of new or used, you don’t have to choose: There’s certified pre-owned (CPO) Ford models. These vehicles offer the value of used cars, but with the condition and added warranties of a new car.
Drivers in the Morgan Hill, San Jose, and Gilroy, California, areas are increasingly turning to our CPO Ford models for their best-of-both-worlds appeal. Keep reading this guide from The Ford Store Morgan Hill to learn more about how this program can benefit you!
Why Ford CPO?
The Ford CPO program takes the risk out of buying a previously owned vehicle. Driving a Ford CPO vehicle means driving with the knowledge and confidence that the vehicle you purchased has been thoroughly inspected and comes with manufacturer-backed limited warranty coverage.
Ford vehicles are some of the best on the road. With a Built Tough construction, they can tow immense loads as easily as they keep your loved ones safe. With proper care and attention, you can drive a Ford until you hit six digits on the odometer.
Since Ford vehicles are so reliable, many drivers make the wise choice to buy a CPO Ford. These are Ford models that have had previous drivers, so they’re like used vehicles, but they come with a quality assurance and special warranties, so they’re also like new cars. They combine the best benefits of both!
What Is Ford CPO?
A Ford CPO is a previously owned model that has earned a special designation as a testament to its like-new quality. In order to qualify for the CPO program and its benefits, a Ford must undergo a thorough inspection, have a clean bill of health, and meet certain age and mileage restrictions.
There are two categories of the Ford Certified Advantage program: Gold Certified and Blue Certified. Read about them here:
Gold Certified
La crème de la crème of CPO vehicles, Gold Certified Ford models must meet stringent criteria:
- 172-point inspection
- Less than 6 model years old
- Fewer than 80,000 miles on the odometer
Blue Certified
A Blue Certified CPO model offers quality guarantees, as well, and in order to qualify for this designation, a vehicle must:
- Pass a 139-point inspection
- Be less than 10 years old (any make and model)
- Have fewer than 120,000 miles on the odometer
Additional Warranties of Both
Each tier, both Gold and Blue, offer warranties for added peace of mind.

A Closer Look into the Comprehensive Multi-Point Inspections
You may be wondering what the multi-point inspections cover. In short, almost everything!
Before any vehicle can be called a Ford CPO vehicle, it must pass a stringent 172-point or 139-point inspection. If a vehicle doesn't meet the strict criteria, Ford won't certify it. It's that simple.
Each certified pre-owned vehicle also undergoes a reconditioning of any components that do not meet program standards, or they are replaced with only new Ford Motorcraft® or Ford Authorized replacement parts—so every component in a CPO Ford is new or like-new.
Whether you opt for a Gold Certified or Blue Certified CPO, the main categories of the inspections involve:
Vehicle History
This includes checking for recalls and performing a VIN inspection.
Road Test
Is the engine quiet enough? Is the car smooth to drive? The only way a vehicle can become certified is if the answer to these questions and more is “yes.”
Vehicle Exterior
For this step, Ford technicians will inspect the car for damage from fire, hail, flood, or other major damage, as well as other details, like making sure the power doors and tailgates work seamlessly.
Vehicle Interior
This step covers essential safety checks, like for the airbags, safety belts, child emergency locks, and the emergency trunk-lid release. It also has checkpoints to make sure that the car is comfortable to drive, too! Ford CPO models must be odor-free, have functioning heated/cooling seats (if applicable), and more.
Underhood Components
This section of the checklist ensures that the car’s fluids, engine, cooling system, fuel system, and electrical system are all new or like-new and working as intended.
Underbody
In this step, technicians will thoroughly inspect the car’s frame, exhaust, transmission, tires and wheels, brakes, and more. If it doesn’t work like new, or can’t be replaced with brand-new parts, it’s not going to be part of the CPO program.
Convenience Features
In this step, Ford technicians will make sure that the owner’s manual is present, that all the keys and remote controls are in working order, and—in what is our favorite touch—will fill the fuel level.

Another benefit to Ford CPO vehicles isn’t just their like-new quality, but also the warranties that come with them.1
